Self-care... There's an App for That!

 Self-Care Apps

With the world becoming more technology-centered, I feel it's become harder to unplug from it all.  We have become so dependent on the ease of electronic devices that we feel lost without it.  Cell phones have become our lifeline to the world, which is wonderful, but we tend to spend so much time mindlessly scrolling on social media sites to pass the time.  We watch shows and movies on the go.  It's a navigation system, an art pad, a notebook, and more.  When I was in school, teachers always said we wouldn't always have a calculator with us when we were out shopping.  It was their motivation for us to learn basic math.  Well, that has definitely changed.

How Do I Find Time for Self-Care?

Just like almost everything else, "There's an app for that!"  There are actually many self-care apps, but there are two I use daily and one I have as an extra just because it's 🆓!

Disclaimer:  This post contains links to third-party apps and sites.  I am not affiliated with any of these apps.  I enjoy using them.  Any compensation for the use of referral codes is explained below.  I do not earn any other compensation for clicking on the links.

The FREE App: A Kinder World

This app is a digital houseplant.... that doesn't wilt or wither!  You can forget about it for days, weeks, or months, and it will still be there.  You have a puppy companion that helps you throughout the game.  There is an anonymous social aspect where you can send and receive uplifting messages to other members.  It uses some techniques to help you with naming your emotions and finding gratitude.  There is a house that you can decorate, but to do that, you need to progress through the game to earn treats for your puppy companion.  There's also a friend garden that allows you to add your friends' codes to create a pretty garden.  Each friend has a specific flower.  At least, that's what I'm assuming.  I don't have any friends in my garden, so if you want to try it out, please add me.

FREE Apps with a PAID Premium Option: Finch Care & Project Camus

Get the Finch Care App

Friend Code: CT81W322XC

The Finch Care App is like having the Tamagotchi all over again.  Your pet grows when you do tasks to manage your self-care.  I use the FREE version, which is good enough to handle a daily check-in.  The app has incentives for you to earn for your pet or your pet's house.  Many useful features are locked, but you don't have to pay the premium to access the basics.  They do give you a three-day trial to test it out.  If you like it, there are different payment options available.  This is my Mochi!

Adding my friend code will add me to your Tree Town.  Sending Good Vibes earns you energy to progress in the game.  I use this one for the 90's nostalgia.

Project Camus - Avaiblable on PC and as an App

Referral Code: 5LGLCL

Project Camus is my personal favorite.  This is the one I use the most because the incentives for using this program are actual items!  There is a FREE version, but it limits what you can use and what you can redeem.  This also has an AI therapist that you can use if you just need to talk.  I do not recommend this to replace professional therapists.  The FREE version does allow you to try all the features once.

I pay for the premium because of the Visualization Diary.  I've used it to put thoughts and emotions into an artistic visual format.  I've used a few of the generated images in previous blogs.  Some come out better than I could ever imagine.  Some require a few tries before they come out the way I like.  There are also ways to earn bonus points, such as referring others.  That feature is newer.  When I first signed up, that was not available.  If you decide to try it out and sign up for premium, we'll both get 3000 points each.

I've redeemed five times - 3 Cozy boxes, 1 $25 Amazon Gift Card, and a 32" Smart TV.  The TV was a test to see if it would work, and it really did!  There are other prizes available, but the FREE version limits what you can get.

Would You Use Self-Care Apps?

Other self-care apps exist.  I have tried some, but not all of them.  These are the three I have one my phone.  What do you think?  Would you use any of these?

  1. It’s an interesting idea to use an app for this. I’m not sure I’d use it because I am not one to gameify my self care but I can see how it works for others who like it. Also love what you said about the math teacher. We can’t use that excuse on our kids anymore! - Elisa
